Why is the price range so wide?

The panel is 60–80% of a TV's manufacturing cost, and prices vary by resolution, panel type (basic LED vs QLED vs OLED) and — crucially — availability for your exact model. Two 43" TVs from different brands can have very different panel prices. That is why any honest quote starts with your model number, found on the sticker on the TV's back.

When does panel replacement make sense?

A useful rule: replacement is worth it when the panel quote is under about half the price of an equivalent new TV and the TV is under 5–6 years old. Is my problem definitely the panel?

Not always — and this is where second opinions save money. Black screens are usually backlight faults, and many line/color problems are board-level fixes. Only physical cracks, impact damage, and certain permanent line patterns truly need a new panel.
