Smart TV Won't Connect to Wi-Fi: Fixes in the Right Order
Most Smart TV Wi-Fi problems are software or router issues, not hardware faults — work through the seven steps below in order and the majority resolve without a service visit. Hardware (the TV's Wi-Fi module) is only suspect when the TV cannot see any networks at all.
Fixes 1–4: the basics that solve most cases
1. Restart both router and TV (power off at the wall for 60 seconds — not just standby). 2. Check other devices on the same Wi-Fi; if they also struggle, it is the router/ISP. 3. Forget the network on the TV and reconnect, re-typing the password. 4. Move the router closer or remove obstacles — TVs have weaker antennas than phones, so a TV can fail on a network a phone still sees.
Fixes 5–7: software-level cures
5. Update the TV firmware (Settings → Support/About → Software Update — use mobile hotspot if needed). 6. Change DNS on the TV to 8.8.8.8 — this specifically cures "connected but apps won't load / YouTube spins forever". 7. As a last software resort, reset network settings (or a full factory reset after noting your app logins).
When it is actually hardware
If the TV cannot see any Wi-Fi network (empty list) while your phone sees several, the TV's Wi-Fi module has likely failed. On many models this is a small internal board that can be replaced affordably (typically ₹800 – ₹2,500 plus service, model-dependent); a USB Wi-Fi adapter or Android box is a workaround on models where the module is integrated into the main board.
Slow apps on old Smart TVs
Aging Smart TVs (especially 2016–2020 models) struggle with modern app versions — that is a memory limit, not a Wi-Fi fault. An Android TV stick (Fire TV / Mi stick / Chromecast) turns the same screen into a fast Smart TV for ₹2,500–₹4,000 and is often the honest recommendation. We install and configure these during doorstep visits.
